Design your own self-heating, self-cooling Solar Passive Eco Home. Inspired by Antoni Gaudí, CalEarth, and Earthship Biotecture
📚 What you'll Learn
This 12-week guided training teaches the principles and practice of Bio-Architecture so you can design, visualize, and draft your own eco-home. By the end, you’ll create a complete professional set of blueprints ready for submission to building authorities and practical use on a construction site.
You’ll learn how to move from hand-drawn 2D plans to a detailed 3D CAD model—equipping you with both traditional drafting skills and modern digital design tools.
🌀Theory
In the theory section, you’ll explore the foundations of biological eco-home design. We’ll study biomimicry and natural inspiration, the structural strength of catenary geometry, and the basics of thermodynamics. A brand-new Vastu module has been added to enrich your design perspective. Throughout this part of the course, I’ll share real-life applications and lessons drawn from 15 years of hands-on experience. We’ll also examine examples from CalEarth and Earthship Biotecture, such as the Moon Cocoon and the Simple Survival models, to see how theory translates into practice.
✏️ 2D Pencil Drafting
Next, we’ll dive into traditional drafting techniques using simple tools like graph paper, a compass, and a ruler. You’ll learn how to create top views (plans), side and front elevations, as well as sectional slices of your design. This process helps you build spatial awareness and fully visualize your eco-home before transitioning to digital modeling. To support your practice, you’ll follow along with over-the-desk video tutorials where you’ll see my hands drawing full-scale examples step by step.
🖥️ 3D CAD Modeling (Rhino 3D)
Finally, we’ll bring your design into the digital world with Rhino 3D, a professional yet intuitive software. A free 3-month Rhino license is included with the course. Together, we’ll model the same design you sketched on paper, covering key elements such as foundations, tire and earthbag walls, wetlands with plants, framed glazing, cylinders with tapered bricks, aircrete domes, superadobe domes, vaulted roofs, spiral showers, and Earthship-style berms. Every step will be guided with live screen shares so you can clearly see the process and understand why each move is made.
