Urban Agriculture Certification
Overview
Course description
Urban Agriculture: A Growing Revolution
With over half the world’s population living in urban areas, cities are expanding rapidly, pushing industrialized agriculture to the forefront. While this has increased food production, it has also impacted soil health, biodiversity, and environmental resilience. As global populations surge, expected to reach 9.7 billion by 2050, finding sustainable ways to feed people has never been more critical.
Urban agriculture presents a powerful alternative, enabling city dwellers to grow food locally and sustainably. This movement is growing around the world, offering benefits that extend beyond just environmental impact—urban agriculture also fosters social and economic resilience, reconnecting people with nature in meaningful ways.
The Many Forms of Urban Agriculture
Urban agriculture can take on numerous forms, each adaptable to city spaces:
Vegetable Gardens: From private yards to community plots in parks and squares.
Edible Landscaping: Integrating fruit trees and vegetables into green spaces.
Rooftop Gardens: Providing space for plants and even beehives on urban rooftops.
Urban Farms: Utilizing private yards and gardens to produce organic vegetables for local communities.
Why Urban Agriculture Matters
Urban agriculture allows individuals and communities to reconnect with food sources, reduce dependence on industrialized agri-food systems, and promote sustainable practices. The benefits are far-reaching:
Food Security: Access fresh, organic produce without relying on large agri-food corporations.
Economic Savings: Reduce the costs of purchasing food from distant suppliers, while supporting local markets.
Social Impact: Strengthen community ties, foster education, and promote inclusivity around a shared goal.
Environmental & Aesthetic Benefits: Convert urban areas into green spaces that enhance biodiversity and resilience.

Pleased with the content
I have extensive knowledge of wilderness survival in my own area, however, learning about the Arctic and Jungle people gave me the interest to pursue learning more about the different climates and areas unknown to me. Honestly, the first module I found uninteresting and struggled to pay attention to it as it seemed frivolous and did not encourage me to continue. I powered through, though, and was much relieved to find more tangible content from there on out. on the whole it was very informative and I loved doing the practical assignments. I have never made char cloth or used a bowdrill or friction method before!

Module 3
a very thorough approach of sylvotherapy including scientific and cultural info. Could be more science base for more credibility of the practice. Forest profiles and cultures vary around the globe so it would be interesting to get module divided in different zones

So far so good!
Overall it's a great course! My favorite is learning about negative ions so far. I was a uncomfortable with the chakra and meridian practice, and the concentrated time spent on these. I think someone who is a long term practitioner of this work is the best person to teach. It's also hard to grasp and believe via this online asyncronous format.
