Module 1: INTRODUCTION, FOUNDATIONS AND SAFETY MEASURES
In this first module:
- You will learn to select an oil based on its quality.
- You will learn to use appropriate language to talk about essential oils.
- You will learn how the oils are used (scent and absorption through the skin).
- Learn all cautionary advice in the use of essential oils (especially for the sick, pregnant, and children).
- You will study the biochemical families as well as the following oils: Santalum album (Sandalwood), Cinnamomum zeylanicum (Cinnamon Bark), and Litsea cubeba (May Chang).
Module 2: HISTORY, RELIGION AND BOTANY
In this second module:
- You will understand the relationship between essential oils and history since the first medicines invented by humans.
- You will assimilate the classification of plants.
- You will discover chemotypes, hybrids, and clones;
- You will study three main oils: Eucalyptus globulus (Blue Gum Eucalyptus), Mentha x piperita (Peppermint), Salvia officinalis (Sage).
Module 3: FRAGRANCES AND OLFACTION
In this third module, you will:
- You will explore the fascinating history of aromas and fragrances in various civilizations.
- You will understand how aromatic molecules enter the human body.
- You will associate smells with chemistry.
- You will study three oils: Cedrus atlantica (Atlas Cedar), Helichrysum italicum (Immortelle from Corsica/Helichrysum), Commiphora myrrha (Myrrh).
Module 4: DISTILLATION, EXTRACTION AND ABSORPTION THROUGH THE SKIN
In this fourth module, you will:
- You will learn the history of distillation and other techniques for extracting plant essences.
- You will delve into absorption through the skin.
- You will learn to perform an aromatherapeutic massage.
- You will study three new oils: Angelica archangelica (Angelica), Citrus limonum (Lemon), and Citrus bergamia (Bergamot).
Module 5: ALCHEMY, ASTROLOGY AND SYMBOLS
In this fifth module, you will:
- You will dive into alchemy, which was inseparably linked to the use of plants until the 18th century.
- You will connect essential oils with other more symbolic aspects.
- You will discover esters and ethers.
- You will study the following three essential oils: Chamaemelum nobile (Roman Chamomile), Rosa damascena (Damask Rose), and Foeniculum vulgare var. dulce (Sweet Fennel).
Module 6: PRACTICAL AROMATHRAPY
In this sixth module, you will:
- You will learn the entire history of aromatherapy since its inception at the beginning of the 20th century.
- You will expand your knowledge about various plant oils and their respective properties.
- You will understand the benefits and dangers of three essential oils: Chamomilla matricaria (Chamomile), Cupressus sempervirens (Cypress), and Boswellia carterii (Frankincense).
Module 7: SCIENTIFIC AROMATHERAPY AND THE HOLISTIC METHOD
In this seventh module, you will:
- You will understand what is meant by “scientific” aromatherapy.
- You will apply a holistic approach that encompasses the whole being (immediate cause, root cause, primary cause).
- You will learn to control the properties and toxicity risks of three essential oils: Pelargonium asperum (Bourbon Geranium), Lavandula angustifolia (Fine or True Lavender), and Melaleuca alternifolia (Tea Tree).
Module 8: THE LANGUAGE AND INTELLIGENCE OF PLANTS
In this eighth module, you will:
- You will discover the plants at the origin of essential oils.
- You will become familiar with their intelligence and their special language.
- You will learn safe handling of oils containing oxides and phenols.
- You will study the benefits and dangers of three new oils: Elettaria cardamomum (Cardamom), Eugenia caryophyllata (Clove), and Ocimum basilicum sanctum (Holy Basil).
Module 9: PROVENANCE, TERROIR AND SYNERGIES
In this ninth module, you will:
- You will become aware of the differences between oils according to their origin and “terroir”.
- You will learn to combine different essential oils in your remedies to create synergies.
- You will study the following three oils: Achillea millefolium (Yarrow), Pogostemon cablin (Patchouli), and Zingiber officinalis (Ginger).
Module 10: CONNECTIONS BETWEEN ALTERNATIVE MEDICINE AND THE HUMAN BODY
In this tenth module, you will:
- You will establish a correspondence between aromatherapy and various alternative medicines to combine this therapy with other approaches.
- You will approach all systems of the human body (respiratory, digestion, etc.), connecting them with the studied biochemical families and with an important oil serving as a benchmark.
- You will know the benefits and dangers of the following three oils: Daucus carota (Wild Carrot), Vetiveria zizanioides (Vetiver), and Cananga odorata (Ylang Ylang).
- You will define your practice and begin your consultations!

How long does it take to complete a course?
That really depends on how many pages you go through per day or week, and of course, on your previous experience. The course is completely online and self-paced, so there are no deadlines. Once you’ve purchased the course, you’ll have lifetime access to all the material. It’s made up of several modules, some are lighter, while others a bit heavier. For most students, completing the entire course takes around 40 hours.
If I need help with the course, can I ask a question?
Yes, absolutely. The student forum is available for this purpose, you can post your questions and either a mentor or another student will get back to you, usually within 48 hours (excluding weekends and holidays). And feel free to share your wins too!

Do I need to attend anything live, or can I study whenever it suits me?
The entire course takes place online and is fully self-paced, so you can study whenever it suits you best. There are no trips, workshops, or live classes required. You’ll get access to course modules as downloadable PDFs, audio files, and in some cases, videos. You study independently in your own time, and if you have any questions, you’re always welcome to ask them in the forum.
How am I assessed during the course?
You’ll find short quizzes at the end of each module to help you reflect on what you’ve learned, they’re NOT graded and are just for your own understanding. At the end of the course, there’s a final multiple-choice exam that is graded. You’ll need to score at least 80% to pass. Don’t worry, if you do not achieve 80% your first time, you can retake the exam at any time.
Are there any prerequisites?
There are no prerequisites or minimum educational requirements. All our courses are carefully designed to be accessible to as many people as possible. You can study from a computer, tablet, or smartphone. If your internet connection is unstable, we recommend downloading the PDF modules and audio files so you can access them offline whenever it suits you. Just keep in mind that you’ll need an internet connection to complete the quizzes and take the final exam.
Do I receive a certificate at the end of the course?
You will receive a printed certificate if you selected that option during registration. Otherwise, you can order it later at any time from your student portal under the "Certificates" section – OR download it for free as a PDF.
