Overview
🐶 A grounded, ethical, psychologically-aware introduction to shamanic-inspired practice
Step into shamanic-inspired work without the drama, dogma, or cultural appropriation. This 10-module Shamanism Course offers a clear, research-informed and culturally respectful pathway into animism, altered states of consciousness, ritual, and eco-spirituality, always with strong ethical guardrails and psychological safety at the center.
You’ll explore global shamanic traditions, contemporary neo-shamanism, and the realities of colonial history while learning how to integrate symbolic journeying, nature-based practice, and gentle ritual into modern life. Instead of promising instant initiation, the course helps you build a thoughtful, sustainable practice that honours both Indigenous wisdom and modern science.
🧑🎓 This course is ideal for:
Coaches, therapists, bodyworkers, and wellness practitioners who hear clients talk about “journeys,” visions, symbols, or spirit contact—and want a way to respond ethically.
Educators, chaplains, spiritual directors, and community facilitators who want to hold simple, low-risk shamanic-inspired spaces without overstepping scope.
Thoughtful seekers who are curious about shamanism but wary of cultural appropriation, spiritual bypassing, and trauma-insensitive methods.
By the end, you won’t be calling yourself a shaman. You’ll be someone who understands the cosmology, psychology, ethics, and eco-spiritual dimensions of shamanic practice, and who can engage this territory with nuance, humility, and care for yourself and others.
🔓 Why This Course, Why Now – Final Invitation
We’re living in a time of overlapping crises, ecological, psychological, spiritual. Many people sense the world is more than matter, yet they’re wary of quick-fix spiritualities, cultural theft, and practices that ignore trauma and mental health. This Shamanism Course meets that moment: it honours ancient techniques of ecstasy and relationship while staying fully accountable to contemporary ethics, science, and lived realities.
🌱What makes this course different
Ethical, decolonial lens – You’ll never be asked to claim titles, use closed ceremonies, or romanticise “universal shamanism.” Cultural specificity, permission, and reciprocity are woven through every module.
Psychologically informed & trauma-aware – Altered states, soul work, and eco-rituals are grounded in nervous-system understanding, with clear red flags, referral points, and non-harm plans.
Practice-oriented but low-risk – You’ll receive concrete scripts, exercises, and templates you can adapt to your context, always framed as educational, reflective, and within a clearly stated scope.
Accessible to thoughtful seekers and professionals alike – No prior spiritual training required; what you do need is curiosity, humility, and a willingness to work slowly and honestly.
🎁 By the end of the course, you will have:
A clear intellectual and experiential understanding of shamanism’s histories, cosmologies, techniques, and critiques
A toolkit of grounded practices, for regulation, symbolic journeying, eco-ritual, and group facilitation, that you can use for yourself and, within your scope, with others
A written ethical framework, safety plan, and realistic development path that help you avoid harm while deepening your practice over time
If you’re looking for a fast track to becoming a shaman, this is not your course. If you’re ready for a thoughtful, accountable, and deeply human exploration of shamanic-inspired work, one that can enrich your life, your relationships, and your professional practice, then you’re in the right place.
When you’re ready, join the Shamanism Course and begin building a path that is rooted, responsive, and truly your own.

Course syllabus
Build a clear, honest foundation for everything that follows. You’ll define shamanism in its original Siberian context and in wider academic and contemporary usage, learning how “shaman,” “shamanic,” and “neo-shamanism” are used and misused today. You’ll explore animism, ritual specialists across cultures, and the long history of suppression and revival under colonialism. Finally, you’ll clarify your own motivations, risks, and boundaries, creating a personal safety and ethics contract for how you intend to engage this work.
This module explores how shamanic traditions imagine the structure of the cosmos: upper, middle, and lower worlds, axes mundi, sacred directions, and place-spirits. You’ll deepen into animism as a relational stance, not just a belief, treating landscapes, animals, and ancestors as “other-than-human persons” while also understanding secular and psychological interpretations. You’ll examine cross-cultural ideas of multiple souls, soul loss, and imbalance, and sketch your own symbolic cosmology rooted in your actual life, heritage, and environment (not borrowed medicine wheels or closed systems).
Here you move from map to terrain: what actually happens in altered states of consciousness (ASCs) from both shamanic and neuroscientific perspectives. You’ll learn how rhythmic drumming, humming, breath, and gentle movement support trance-like states, and how these differ from psychosis or medical crisis. The module gives you tools to design safe, time-limited journeys (or to choose conceptual learning only), create pre-journey rituals, and build screening and aftercare plans that protect mental health, yours and anyone you may support.
This module unpacks “core shamanism”: Harner-style journey frameworks, three-world maps, and techniques like animal-ally journeys, healing places, and nature-based divination. You’ll examine both the usefulness and the ethical limits of extracting “universal” methods from traditional cultures. Practically, you learn to structure short journeys, design simple casting or omen-reading practices rooted in your own land and symbolism, and approach concepts like soul loss and soul retrieval as metaphors for depletion and reconnection, not as clinical trauma work or claims of Indigenous authority.
Bridge shamanic language with modern psychology so you can talk about journeys, visions, and spirits without either pathologising or romanticising them. You’ll compare shamanic healing roles with psychotherapists, learn Jungian/dpth-psychological tools for working with archetypes, shadow, and symbolic imagery, and study research on the continuum between spiritual experiences and psychosis. Throughout, you’ll develop a mental-health integration plan that clarifies what you can and cannot offer and how to collaborate with licensed professionals when needed.
In this module, shamanic worldviews meet climate reality. You’ll explore Indigenous ecological knowledge, shamanic stewardship roles, and the ways ceremony encodes land-care and seasonal law. You’ll reflect on colonial land theft, Land Back movements, and how eco-spirituality can either reinforce or resist greenwashing and extraction. Practically, you’ll design small, respectful nature-based rituals, sit-spot practices, and eco-grief circles tied to concrete acts of local care and Indigenous solidarity rather than abstract “loving the Earth.”
This module examines neo-shamanism, “urban shaman” branding, and the explosion of online ceremonies and psychedelics-adjacent work. You’ll learn to read marketing claims critically, recognise spiritual bypassing and exploitation, and design city-friendly, low-impact ritual spaces (altars, urban ritual walks, digital circles) that don’t borrow closed ceremonies. You’ll also develop safety scripts for online groups, explore the limits of digital trance work, and craft a personal hybrid practice that integrates shamanic-inspired tools with mindfulness, movement, and creativity in a coherent way.
Here the course leans fully into ethics. You’ll study how colonial repression of ceremonies intersects with today’s wellness marketplace, and what cultural appropriation, appreciation, and exchange actually look like in practice. You’ll explore permission, reciprocity, and accountability; examine lineage claims and “medicine person” titles; and map your real role (student, peer, facilitator, clinician, etc.). The module also covers red flags (financial exploitation, sexual misconduct, guru dynamics) and best practices for holding space as a peer or spiritual educator, not a therapist or Indigenous authority
If you’re drawn to circles, classes, or community ritual, this module gives you structure. You’ll learn how to design psychologically safe containers with clear time boundaries, group agreements, choice-based participation, and built-in grounding and debrief segments. You’ll practise adapting journeying and imagery for different bodies, senses, and belief systems, including secular and interfaith-friendly language variants. You’ll also learn de-escalation skills, how to respond when someone becomes overwhelmed, and when to end an activity early and refer out.
The final module gathers everything into a cohesive, sustainable path. You’ll clarify your unifying intention, core practices, and realistic role for the next 1–3 years (private path, side vocation, or integrated professional offering). You’ll design a small personal or community project that fits your scope and ethics, with built-in safety, feedback, and documentation. Finally, you’ll craft a clear bio, service descriptions, and a sustainable rhythm of rest, supervision, and ongoing study so your shamanic-inspired work remains ethical, grounded, and nourishing over time.
